THE ATTACK TEAM

In American football, a team is divided into 3 teams: offense, defense, and special teams. Each has 11 athletes and the team of specialists, in most of their positions, is composed of a mix of attacking and defending athletes.

THEQuarterback(pitcher) is the brain of the team. Dictates tactics (typically chosen by the coach) during the huddle (that meeting where everyone gets down on their knees before starting the play).

Before the start of the move, he can also shout the audibles (the codes used to change previously combined moves).

At the start of the turn, he will be positioned behind theCenter(Center) to receive the ball. During the play, he can give the ball to onerunning back, throw the ball, or carry the ball.

YouRunning Backsstand behind theQuarterbackor, sometimes, behind and a little to the side, at the beginning of each play. There are two main types of corridors, the"Halfback"it's the"Fullback".

In formations with only one runner, this would always be aHalfback. THEHalfbackcarries the ball on most running plays, and must have a combination of speed, athleticism, and strength. THEFullbackhe doesn't have to be as fast, but he must have a lot of strength because he is mainly responsible for blocking for theHalfback.

In bidding plays, theRunning Backscan block protecting theQuarterback, or move to receive passes.

Offensive LineIt is formed by athletes from 3 positions, they are:Center, Offensive Guards (Left/Right) and Tackles (Left/Right).

Center (C)- The player in the middle will be the center, who starts each play by passing the ball through the inside of his legs to the quarterback. The center is the brain of the offensive line, and before the play has the responsibility to analyze the defense and make adjustments to the offensive line's blocking scheme.

Offensive Guards (G)- THEsavedoes the protection ofQuarterback, it is between thecenterand thetackles, he tries to stop the DT from invading and theQuarterbacktake Sack.

Offensive Tackles (OT)- There are also two on the field (left and right) and they are at the ends of the offensive line, each next to a Guard. The LT (Left Tackle) can be considered the most important position on the offensive line, as it protects the “blind” side of the QB (ex: when the QB is right-handed, when making the pass movement, he turns his body to the right side, losing the view on the left side). It has the function of protecting the QB, generally “bumping head-on” with the Defensive End of the opposing team. It also makes room for the Running Back.

Youtight endsthey are stronger and more versatile players. They have two functions on the pitch: Blocking and receiving passes (generally short/medium).

Youwide receiversthey are fast players who travel both short and long routes to receive passes.

THE DEFENSE TEAM

THEDefensive Lineis composed of athletes from 2 positions, they are:defensive endandDefensive Tackle.

The defensive line is typically made up of 3 or 4 players; the 2 at the ends are calleddefensive ends.

Everyone presses the line of attack, preventing runs and trying to knock down theQuarterback. Compared to theDefensive Tackles, youdefensive endsare typically a little smaller and faster.

already theDefensive Tackles, who are the best defensive players, are positioned more in the center of the defensive line, have the same function as theDefensive Ends.

There are two types ofLinebackers:

THEMiddle/Inside Linebackers (MLB/ILB)), which is positioned behind the defensive line, in the center, and its main function is to stop runners, but also to blitz and cover passes.

and theOutside Linebackers (OLB), which are usually two - left (LOLB) and right (ROLB) - and also stop runs and "defend" passes, but ROLB has one more function, which is to go on top of theQuarterback, since it faces the “blind” side of theQuarterback.

Defensive Backs (DB)- This position is formed by theCornerbacks (CB)and hairSafeties (S).

Cornerback (CB) -  There are usually two and they are positioned in front of the WRs. Their main function is to mark them, but in running plays, they must stop therunning back. He is a fast and strong player.

Safeties (S)- They are the last defensive players who act in the coverage of deep passes. As with LBs, there are two types ofSafeties. THEStrong Safety (SS), which is the strongest and usually positions itself on the side of the field where theTight Endis, and theFree Safety (FS), smaller and more agile, who is the last player in the defense field

THE SPECIAL TEAM

THEKicker (K)is the player who kicks the ball between the "Y" posts in an attempt to make the field goal and extra point. He specializes in kicking the ball that is in contact with the ground, that is, he is often also responsible for kicking the ball back into play, the kickoff.

THEHolder (H)is the player who holds the ball so that it stands up and can be kicked by the Kicker. That player must still spin the ball as the kicker approaches so that he does not kick the seam part of the ball and hinder the kick.

Not long ago, Reserve Quarterbacks were the tendency to perform this role, as they made the defenses understand that he could receive the ball at any time and make a pass play, instead of the kick attempt, as a way to surprise the opponent .

THEPunter (P)is the player who specializes in kicking the ball without it being on the ground, that is, he kicks it away so that the opposing team is as far away as possible from the Endzone area. This player's role requires a lot of precision, as he must kick as far and high (to give his team time to press the "returner") as possible, and still be precise so that the ball does not go out through the back of the field, because in that case the play automatically starts at the defensive 20-yard line.

YouLong Snappers (LS)are the players responsible for throwing the ball to Punters and Holders, so that they perform their duties. He positions himself in the center of the formation, throwing the ball back and starting the play. The movement is similar to that of a common snap, for the Quarterback, but in this case they throw the ball much harder back, as the receiver is much further away, which requires even more precision. They are still responsible for stopping defensive players who charge through the middle towards the kickers.

Returners are players who specialize in returning kicks in an attempt to get a better field position so that the offense can restart. It is usually players from offensive positions who perform these functions, with the ability to receive and run.Punter Returner (PR),  for punt returns, andKicker Returner (KR), for Kickoff Returns.

Gunner- A player who in Kickoffs and Punts situations is specialized in running across the field as fast as he can and taking down the Punter Returner (PR) or the Kicker Returner (KR) without it advancing much, they usually position themselves close to the lines sides where there are fewer blockers.

jammer- In contrast, the Jammer is the player who is specialized only in trying to brake or slow down the speed at which the Gunner advances. That is, he protects the player who will return.

upback- A blocker whose main function is to protect the Punter in punt situations, can also receive the ball in place of the Punter in fake punts
